Hey, Beansy!

Look what I worked on yesterday! The iron is only there for contrast...your tote bag is done and I'll be bringing it next week when we come! It turned out mighty fine, if I do say so myself. You picked out some pretty fabrics!

On another note, it snowed here yesterday, after the ice and sleet laid down a nice, 1"-2" base...we've gotten almost 6" of snow already. John went to work yesterday, I stayed home since it was my day off. Today, we are both enjoying a Snow Day...my office closed again and John elected NOT to go in since he travels over 20 miles into the office and the roads are iffy at best right now. It's still snowing, although the weather man says the storm is past and we should expect a bit of sunshine today even though the temp won't get much above 20°. With the windchill, it's around 5° and not getting any warmer. I see more sewing in my immediate future.

Baby, It's Cold Outside!!!

January seems to be the Ice Month in southwest Missouri! For the past 3 years, we've had an ice storm sometime in January...Let me tell you, folks. I DON'T LIKE ICE! Well, no one really likes ice, unless it's in your tea. But this kind of ice is treacherous and just plain nasty! It started yesterday as frozen rain, then sleet, and turned into snow just after midnight. Since today is Tuesday, I didn't have to work so John took the 4-wheel-drive truck to work...I'm sure glad he did.

John just called and they've closed his office and he is on his way home from work. Thank goodness. It took him over an hour and a half to get home last night - usually takes about 30 minutes.

Here's a picture of what I saw when I looked out the morning room window this morning.

Those poor cows have ice on their backs! John says they have insulation so not to worry too much.

They say this will probably last another day...another storm is on the way from Oklahoma..maybe I'll have tomorrow off, too. I see more sewing and knitting in my future.

Happy Birthday, Dear Son!

Today, 31 years ago, John and I welcomed our son into the world. I know, it's sappy, but true. John III was so anticipated and when he finally arrived (10 days early!), we were overjoyed. We were living in the Philippines, 10,000 miles away from any family so that poor little guy was at our mercy! He was definitely a trial-and-error baby. Frankly, I think we did pretty darned good for not really knowing what we were doing.



Here's our baby boy at about 5 months old...first teeth there at the bottom. And next we have 1 year old...going to a wedding.


He always looks spiffy!






And here he is last week on a business trip to Las Vegas...quite a grown man! We are so proud of you, John...You have grown to be a loving husband, a fun, nurturing father, and a very impressive man.

Fun, Laughter, Knitting, and Friends

I spent the past weekend on a sort of Knitter's Retreat. My friend Terri has a farm a bit south of here and she opened it up to all the knitters from the shop for the weekend. Several girls came down only for the day, others spent the night, and one other (me) stayed 2 nights. I got to know some of the ladies that I've only spoken to a bit at the shop. There was laughter, knitting, giggling, food - oh, my, there was food!- and more laughter. Saturday nite, there were airbeds all over the place!

Nancy came on Saturday. She's only been knitting socks for - well, one sock worth. Here she is with Terri showing off her very first sock! Good job, Nancy!

I came home on Monday morning and started the laundry and then went into the studio to sew for a while. I know a lot of you will be shocked to know that my current WIP contains not a whit of slime green - nada, none! It's in pink, fuschia, yellows, reds, and oranges. Below is the basic quilt without borders...am going to add the borders when I get home from work today. John came in last night and asked me if I would add something bright to the quilt cause it was kinda dull! Sarcasm just dripped out of him, of course!

My next quilt is already planned as well. It will contain blue, turquoise, and...wait for it....slime green! Will post pictures once I get it on the wall.

A Street Named After Us!

Our son is doing quite a bit of geneaology and sometimes we get a call for info on our ancestors. On Friday, he called to ask us to go to a couple of cemetaries in the area and take some photos. I thought a nice ride was just the thing for a Saturday morning so we set out after John got his haircut. We went to one cemetary and got 11 photos for him. Then we went out to the family cemetary where John's father, mother, grandparents, and aunt are buried. After checking those out, we decided to head out to the old homestead...John's grandparents farmed that 200 acres since the late 1800's. It was sold after John's dad passed away in 1958. We drove out to where John remembers playing in a field with his siblings. We found the old pond and the road up to the house. We met the new owners of the property - Steve and Jan are from England and have built a restaurant and dance hall on the north side of the property. A short drive to the south and we came upon a delicious surprise!

John's mom had told me that there were two prominent families in Wright county - the Knotwells and the Royals. We found Royal Rd. and then came upon Knotwell St. Very cool!

I worked on some quilting this weekend. Each year, one of the grandchildren gets a Something-of-the-Month from Nana. Last year it was Charlotte who got a Pillowcase each month. This year it's Emily with a Book of the month plan. But I'm also going to make something for us each month. Have decided to do a tablerunner each month for the table. Here is this month's runner:

I love the colors and it used so very little fabric. Not a lot of stashbusting with this project. But nice, none-the-less!
